4 Days in Perth. Sailing Ocean Fox Ep
It was only a month ago that we were walking the shores of Perth in Western Australia. This is one of the finest cities we have been to. During our four days we take you on a wine tour, visit Fremantle and come face to face with Australia 2 and that famous keel. We absolutely love the museum, such an inspiration!
We visit Rottnest island, what a beautiful island! So organised as well, they have a bus that’s takes you all the way around, we walked most of the way and loved the white sandy beaches and the blue water.
Dreaming about being back in the big blue!

Carla & Simon
A little bit about us...
We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream!
Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia.
We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way.
Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is!
As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream.
We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

My two Bob - the defenders in this instance did what worked for them, and have reviewed/amended their defensive measures, and should be commended. I have my thoughts on security measures of various levels, based on situation awareness, monitoring, avoidance, early detection, maintaining distance, layers of security/defence. Bottom line - sailors need a practiced plan based on the time/place/context.

Testing anchors in sand and mud for their holding power is useless. They all work in ideal conditions. What one really wants to know is which anchor will set and hold in grass or hard sand or rock. This Ultra saleman talks about anchors "landing upside down" which is ridiculous. A Delta cannot maintain an upside down position. It immediately rolls to one side or the other and then begins to set. I do not think that our salesboy has any experience using the Delta, and I think that he has a commercial interest in trying to discredit it. IMO, the Delta is the most cost-effective, and I do have experience in using one. I have found the 22 lb. Delta to be superior to the 35 lb. CQR. I always used a minimum of 50 ft. of chain. SS Ultra? Say goodbye to $$$$ when it fouls in 50 ft. of water. $4,000.00? YIKES!

Best ever advice for you old boys, dont depend on your crew, are you up to it single handed, prepare for that as shit may happen and your crew/passengers are entirely your rsponsabiltg if lost you face procesussion. Sail single handed for at least 5 years 5,000 miles without electronics then your ready. Regrads skipper john

Nice words good talk, but having done it expect the unexpected, take bottled water, tinned food and a sowing kit for blown out sails, and navigate old school, because when your allfancy goes wrong u better well should know how to do without power, as an exercise try sailing without power to the island of Madera and back as a try, as I learned be a hardened sailer thats been in storms previous. Your crew crew is your responsibility to deliver home safe and sound, the atlantic is no playground. Good luck, but remeber their lies are in your hands and entirely your responsabilty, regards skipper john.

Is the Karcher still working? I realise lots of things have changed over the years, with more bespoke high pressure pumps being now available, but I wondered how long you got out of the Karcher? The biggest downside I imagine is the noise.....pressure cleaners are not noted for their quietness.

I purchased a Tomking TK144FC. 23 LBS, 1500 watts, 4 cycle. Neccessary modifications: File the flywheel timing slot to retard the ignition to something sensible. Change the centrifugal clutch springs to lighter ones so the motor can troll. File a hand finish on the propeller. Result. This small reliable air cooled motor would be very suitable for a 3 place dinghy and take very little space in a boat. When you're done, you turn it upside down and pour the fuel back in your bottle.

  • @Rob-fx2dw

Havbe used a Parsun 5 about three times per month for a few years. The built in gravity tank does not easily supply enough pressure to feed the carburettor which makes starting difficult. It is easy to start if you are using a separate fuel tank that allows you to pre pressure the fuel. Otherwise has been very reliable and supplies sufficient powr to make a small dinghy plane.

Question is: why only 6' of chain and why on the tip of the main anchor (rather connect chain to few links from the main). This way you really have two independent anchors, easier to set and retrieve. And dont worry about wind shifts, they don't occur 180 degrees in 5 sec
